Colleen M. Cunningham l Assistant Professor l University of Utah

Colleen is an assistant professor of Entrepreneurship & Strategy at Eccles School of Business, University of Utah. She studied innovation, entrepreneurship, and corporate strategy. She is interested in how established firms and new ventures access the resources necessary to commercialize new technologies, how firms construct and implement innovation strategies, and the relationship between innovation and performance. Her research is quantitative and typically focuses on the medical device, pharmaceutical, and energy industries. Colleen received her PhD in Duke University, Master in Economics in Simon Fraser University and BA in University of British Columbia. During her visit, Colleen will work with Professor David Clough and other faculty members in the division. [June - August 2023]

Magdalena Winker l PhD Student l Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna)

Magdalena Winkler is a doctoral student at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna). In her research, she focuses on the emergence and evolution of nascent markets from a variety of perspectives - including the role of categorization processes, values, and entrepreneurial agency. She primarily works with archival, ethnographic, and interview data. Empirically, she studies the context of the cellular agriculture and its application in cell-derived animal products. During her visit, Magdalena will work closely with Professor Mia Raynard. [February - March 2023]

 Lucija Mihotić - Doctoral Fellow I Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) & Research and Teaching Assistant at Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb, University of Zagreb

Lucija is a doctoral candidate at Vienna University of Economics and Business, Institute for Change Management and Management Development. Her research is in the domain of Family business management. Specifically, in her paper-based dissertation she investigates succession processes and family dynamics in family-owned businesses. In particular, her focus is on implications of various aspects such as communication and sensitive topics around succession processes and effects of changes such as unexpected events, crisis and digitalization on succession processes in family firms. Lucjia holds a master degree from FEB Zagreb, JOSZEF (a training program for future leaders in Central and Eastern Europe) and Master Class CEE (study program for CEE management) certificates from WU. She participates in teaching the following courses at FEB Zagreb: Principles of Marketing, Marketing Management and Business to Business Marketing, on bachelor and master level. During her visit, Lucija will work with Professor Mia Raynard and various faculty members in UBC Sauder. [January - April 2023]

Nathan J. Hiller l Professor l Florida International University

Nathan is a professor of Management at Florida International University, and Executive Director of the university-wide Center for Leadership. His research is largely in the domain of leadership, and often at the intersection of organizational behavior and strategic management. He is presently working on better understanding: how executive psychology and behavior interact in producing firm-level performance and CSR, shared and collective forms of leadership, creating more inclusive pathways for people into leadership positions, and the science and practice of leadership development. He holds a PhD from Penn State and a BA (Hons) from the University of Calgary. He has held visiting position at Cornell (ILR), the University of Washington, and FGV in Rio de Janeiro. During his visit, he will work with Professor Dan Skarlicki and various faculty member in UBC Sauder.  [September - December 2022]

Samantha Dodson l Postdoctoral Research Fellow l University of Utah

Samantha "Sammi" Dodson is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Montalbano Centre for Responsible Leadership Development. Her research program broadly focuses on how employees' cognitions and emotions affect their interpersonal outcomes. Specifically, her current work addresses cognition and emotion as these phenomena relate to a) the causes and consequences of interpersonal distress (e.g., discrimination, sexual harassment) experienced by women and other stigmaitzed identities at work, b) the social effects of abstraction related to gender stereotypes, and c) understanding and alleviating suffering at work. She holds a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Utah and a B.S. from Brigham Young University.  She will work with Professor Dan Skarlicki and various other faculty in UBC Sauder during her visit. Hannes Leroy | Associate Professor | Erasmus University Rotterdam

Hannes is an associate professor in Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is interested in authentic leadership and how to develop it. That interest includes not only a passionate and critical view of the concept of authenticity but his past work also includes a better understanding of its unique outcomes (e.g., safety, error hiding and work engagement), antecedents (e.g., mindfulness training), and similarities and differences from related concepts (i.e., leader behavioral integrity, leader communication transparency). On the development side he is passionate about authenticity both in terms of developing leaders to use their unique or authentic self as a source of their leadership strength as well as the idea of real (i.e., actually moving the needle) leadership development. Hannes will work closely with various faculty members in UBC Sauder during his visit. [May - November 2022]

Zhefan Huang l PhD Student l University of Florida

Zhefan is currently a PhD student in Warrington College of Business, University of Florida. He holds a B.S. in Psychology from Peking University. His research interests include strategic HRM, strategic leadership, and quantitative research methods. During this visit, he will work closely with Professor Danielle van Jaarsveld. Rosalind Chow l Associate Professor l Carnegie Mellon University

Rosalind is an associate professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory at the Tepper School of Business, and is also affiliated with the Social and Decision Sciences group at Dietrich College. Her research focuses on how individuals experience and respond to different forms of social inequality, such as gender and racial inequality. She has particular expertise on White Americans’ responses to racial inequality, and how members of dominant groups can contribute to the dismantling of systemic bias, with a specific focus on promotion processes within organizations. Her research interests and educational experience provide her with a unique lens on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues, making her a regularly sought consultant and speaker for a variety of companies. Rosalind holds a BA in Psychology from Columbia University, and a PhD in Organizational Behavior from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. [July - August 2022]

Dev Jennings | Professor | University of Alberta

Dev is the professor in Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Management at University of Alberta. He is an organizational sociologist by training and in his orientation, one with an interest in institutions, technology, entrepreneurship and the natural environment. He has spent most of my academic life in interdisciplinary spaces among sociology, business and natural sciences. Currently, his main pursuits are work on entrepreneurship and technology, much of it with the Interpretive Data Science (IDeaS) group and around organizations and the natural environment, some of which is with the FES (Future Energy Systems) group. During his visit, he will work closely with various faculty members in Sauder School of Business. [August 2021 - August 2022]

Shannon Taylor | Associate Professor | University of Central Florida

Shannon is an associate professor and Ph.D. program coordinator in the management department at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. His research examines rude, abusive and unethical behaviors of employees and leaders. His work has appeared in journals in business and applied psychology and has been featured by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fox News and NPR. He also serves as research director at Knowtro Inc. During his visit, he will work closely with various faculty members in Sauder School of Business. [January - August 2019]

Hyunji Kwon | Associate Professor | Seoul National University

Hyunji is an associate professor at the Department of Sociology, Seoul National University. Her research focus on sociology of labor, comparative industrial relations, labor markets and inequality study. Her work has been published in journals including Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Korean Journal of Labor Studies. During her visit, she will work closely with various faculty members in UBC especially Professor Danielle van Jaarsveld. [March 2019 - February 2020]

Chang Lu I PhD Candidate I University of Alberta

Chang is currently a doctoral student in University of Alberta and his research interests are: Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Healthcare, Distributed Trust Technologies (e.g. Blockchain). He earned a Master degree in HRM from Tilburg University and BA with double major in HRM and Sociology from Renmin University of China. Xiao Ting (Amy Shaw) I Assistant Professor I University of Macau

Amy is an assistant professor in University of Macau and her research interests are: creativity, intelligence, individual differences, personnel selection, psychometrics. Martin Hoegel I Professor I  Ludwig-Maximilians-Univ. Munich

Martin Hoegl is Head of the Institute for Leadership and Organization at Ludwig-Maximilians-Univ. Munich. Before joining LMU Munich, he served on the faculties of Washington State University (USA), Bocconi University (Milan, Italy) and WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management (Vallendar, Germany). Moreover, Martin Hoegl held visiting professorships at the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern Univ., USA), Curtin University (Perth, Australia) and at the National Sun Yat-Sen University (Taiwan), and has given guest lectures at various international universities. He is an Affiliated Faculty Member of the WHU Center for Responsible Leadership. Martin has extensive experience in working with executive audiences at various levels of seniority in Europe, North America, and Asia. He has conducted research projects with major firms in the US and Europe. His work focuses on the following key areas of leadership: Leading People, Leading Innovation, Leading Organizations. Jason Windawi I PhD Candidate I Princeton University

Jason Windawi is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Princeton University. He is joining us for a month as a visiting Ph.D. student in both the OBHR Division and the W. Maurice Young Centre. He is here to work primarily with Marc‐David, Chris Rowell, Chang Lu, Dennis Ma, and others involved in researching distributed trust technologies in the Vancouver ecosystem. He is looking forward to meeting the members of the division. Among other topics, he is happy to discuss the role of emergent technologies and organizational forms, particularly governance issues around both. [October - November 2019]

Hieu Nguyen | PhD candidate | Queensland University of Technology 

Hieu is a PhD candidate in the Management cluster at the UQ Business School. He received the 1st class honor in Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) from Queensland University of Technology and was awarded a competitive travel scholarship to student at The University of Waterloo (Toronto, Canada) as part of a student exchange program. His research spans the fields of management and organisational psychology, specifically focusing on the effects of emotions and leadership prototypes on the dark side of leadership. Laura Mitzscherling | PhD Student | Freie University Berlin 

Laura is currently a PhD student and has been a Research Assistant at the Chair of Innovation Management since 2014. She currently works with the 'Consortium "Advanced-UV for Life", one of the projects funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research with the program "Zwanzig20 - Partnerschaft fur Innovation" ("Twenty20-Partnership for Innovation") Laura completed a Master Degree in 'Corporate Management and Economics", with a minor in 'Cultural Communication and Management" at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. Nikolaus Beck | Professor | Università della Svizzera italiana

Nikolaus Beck is Professor at the Faculty of Economics of USI. He studied in Erlangen and Aberdeen and has an MA in Sociology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He received his PhD in Business administration at the University of Mannheim and his habilitation from the University of Erfurt. His articles have been published in Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Studies, Strategic Organization, and other outlets. His research interests include New Institutional Theory, Population Ecology, organizational change, and the sociology of the family. Dorit Efrat Treister | Assistant Professor | Ben-Gurion University of Negev

Dorit is currently an Assistant Professor at Guilford Glazer School of Business and Management, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. After completing her PhD at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, she was a post-doctoral fellow at Sauder School of Business OB/HR division, University of British Columbia. Her research interests include: Emotions, Aggression, Time Perception, Culture, and Creativity. Han Ming (Daniel) Chng | Associate Professor | CEIBS

Han Ming (Daniel) is the Associate Professor of Management in CEIBS. He completed his Ph.D. in Management (2006) at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin, USA. Dr. Chng teaches strategic management, organizational turnaround, global strategy, organizational theory and design, managerial decision making, and strategic consulting to MBA students as well as managers and top executives of multinational firms and government agencies in China, South Korea, and Singapore. He was awarded the MBA Teaching Excellence Award at SKK Graduate School of Business in 2008 for excellence in curriculum design and teaching. His research interests focuses on organizational and managerial strategic behaviors during situations adversity. During his visit, he worked with Professor Marc-David Seidel. Darren K. Bharanitharan I PhD Candidate I The Australia National University

Darren received a Ph.D. degree in Data Compression from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. He has also received an MBA degree from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. He started his academic career at Korea University as an Assistant Professor. In the engineering field, he has published more than 41 research papers in well-regarded journals such as IEEE MM, IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TVLSI, and IEICE.  Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in leadership at The Australian National University. In the management field, he has also published papers in highly regarded journals listed in the Financial Times-50. Furthermore, two of his upcoming papers will be appeared in the Australian Business Dean Council (ABDC)’s A* group of journals. His current research interests include leader humility, paradoxical leadership, knowledge hiding, innovational ambidexterity, entrepreneurship, Internet Of Things (IoT), and Video Coding. Dr. Bharanitharan was named the Outstanding International Student by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan, in 2005. In 2012, based on his contribution to Information and Communication Technologies, the government of Taiwan presented him with an un-conditional Permanent Residency (Plum Blossom Card), which grants special and prestigious status in Taiwan. Also, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recognized his professional contributions by awarding him the IEEE Senior Member grade, which is the highest honor and international recognition for engineering professionals. Lisa E. Cohen | Associate Professor | Desautels Faculty of Management l McGill University

Lisa E. Cohen is currently an Associate Professor in Organizational Behaviour at Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University. Her research interests are Human Resource Management, Managerial Careers, Organization/Job Structure and Organizational Theory.

Christopher James Rowell | Visiting PhD Candidate | Aalto University

Chris is currently a PhD candidate at School of Science (Institute of Strategy and Venturing, Department Industrial Engineering and Management), Aalto University. He studies narrative and other discursive processes in strategic and institutional phenomena, particularly in the context of nascent markets and emerging organizational fields. He also studies the articulation and enactment of time in strategy and organizing processes through an institutional lens. During his visit, he will work closely with Professor Marc-David Seidel. Mahmut Bayazit | Associate Professor of Organizational Studies, School of Management | Sabanci University

Mahmut Bayazit holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Cornell University. He also received an Msc. Degree in IO Psychology from Baruch College, CUNY.  His research interests include leadership, gender and leadership, multilevel influences on employee attitudes and wellbeing, strategic HR processes. His research has been published in journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Human Resource Management, Small Group Research. He has served as a consultant and trainer for a number of companies such as Citibank, BSH, Koc Holding, CEVA Logistics, Peugeot, and TEMSA.  During his visit, he will work closely with Professor Danielle van Jaarsveld and also teach a MBA course on Leadership in Term 2.  [September 2016 - August 2017]

Alexander Egeling | Visiting PhD Student | Helmut Schmidt University

Alexander Egeling is a PhD student at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, Germany. His research interests are industrial relations, socioeconomics, and qualitative research methods. In his PhD, he examines "reasons for membership in German business associations”. Alexander got his diploma from Leipzig University and spent a year at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. Despite his research, he instructed courses in human resource management, organisational behaviour, project management and academic writing on BA, MA, and PhD level at several major German research universities. Gary Johns | Professor of Management at John Molson School of Business | Concordia University

Gary Johns is the Professor of Management in the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University, Montreal.  He has research interests in absenteeism from work, presenteeism, personality, job design, research methodology, and the impact of context on organizational behavior. Stefania Mariano | Associate Professor of Management at the Institute for Knowledge and Innovation | Bangkok University

Stefania Mariano is an Associate Professor of Management at the Institute for Knowledge and Innovation, Bangkok University where she teaches in the MBA and PhD programs. She earned her PhD degree from University of Molise (Italy). She worked in Europe, USA, the Middle East and South-East Asia. Her current research interests focus on knowledge shaping, organizational learning and forgetting processes. Tyler G. Okimoto | Senior Lecturer in Management | Chair, UQ Business School Ethics Review Committee | University of Queensland

Tyler G. Okimoto is a Senior Lecturer in Management (Assoc. Prof. equivalent) in the University of Queensland Business School where he teaches courses on leadership, human resource management, negotiation, and decision-making in the undergraduate, MBA, Medical Leadership, and Executive Education programs.  Prior to joining UQ, he received his Ph.D. in Social and Organizational Psychology from New York University in 2005, and worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Psychology at Flinders University in Australia, and in the School of Management at Yale University.

Okimoto's research investigates two primary themes. First, he studies biases in organizational and ethical decision-making, particularly how those biases contribute to discrimination, unethical practices, injustice, and conflict within and between groups.  Second, he studies how these individuals, groups, organizations, and societies can overcome conflict and injustice, recovering justice and repairing intra- and inter-group relations.  In the last eight years, his work has resulted in 36 publications, 100+ presentations, and 1100+ citations. In 2012 he was awarded the Early Career Researcher Award from the International Society for Justice Research for his contributions to the understanding of justice and its repair. He currently holds two major research grants studying the barriers preventing effective reconciliation in the aftermath of workplace transgressions, as well as following major socio-political disputes. His research on the biases hindering women's attainment of leadership roles has been featured in the American Association of University Women 2010 report ‘Why so few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics’, the Harvard Kennedy School’s Gender Action Portal, the recent book ‘How to Publish High Impact Research’ (APA), and an extended television segment on ‘Good Morning America’. Chen-Bo Zhong | Associate Professor | Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto

Chen-Bo Zhong is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at Rotman. His research focuses on ethics, moral psychology, decision making and unconscious processes. He has published in journals such as, the Science, Psychological Science, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. Vanessa is our Visiting Assistant Professor at Sauder School of Business and also an Assistant Professor from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.  Her research interests include Family Business, Entrepreneurship, Governance, Comparative Ownership Structures, and CSR. Jochem Kroezen | PhD Candidate| Erasmus University Rotterdam

Christian Tröster | Assistant Professor of Leadership & Organizations Behavior | Kühne Logistics University

In September 2011, Dr. Christian Tröster commenced his appointment at the Kühne Logistics University in the field of Leadership and Organizational Behavior. Before he was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. Dr. Tröster studied Sociology at the University of Groningen (NL) and holds a Ph.D. in Management (2011) from the Rotterdam School of Management (NL). In 2009 he was a visiting scholar at the LINKS Centre at the Gatton College of Business and Economics, University of Kentucky. His research focuses on organizational networks and leadership. Specifically, he investigates how peoples’ interactions influence individual-, team-, and organizational performance and what leaders can do to optimize their subordinates’ networks. He is also interested in the consequences of employing a (culturally) diverse workforce. Dr. Tröster has consulted various companies including IBM, ECORYS, and VOPAK.
