BComm (University of British Columbia), MBA (University of Southern California), DBA (Harvard University)
Dean Emeritus Noel Alexander Hall, a Sauder School of Business Professor since 1953, passed away on October 31, 2017.

Professor Hall's first appointment at UBC in the Industrial Relations Division (now Organizational Behavior) was in 1953. In 1975, he was recognized by the CUS and UBC Business Review as a 'Distinguished Alumnus' for his "outstanding contribution to business, education and community."

Amongst his many outstanding contributions to the Faculty, UBC and the community include: Chair of the Industrial Relations Management Division; advisory committee member to establish the Industrial Relations Institute and subsequently Director of the Institute; unionized staff negotiating committee member; Faculty Association Treasurer and Chair of the membership committee and association; appointment by the Minister of Labour as chair of various conciliation and arbitration boards.  One of Noel's biggest achievements occurred in 1973 when he was appointed as commissioner to review the BC labour law of the day. His report contained a number of innovations that were unknown in Canada at the time, but have become common practice across the country. Of note is his contribution to the Colombo Plan - Malaya Project to assist the Universities of Singapore and Malaya establish courses in Commerce and Business Administration, as part of the Canada's contribution under the Colombo Plan.

Professor Hall was appointed Dean of the Faculty in 1974 and resigned as Dean for health reasons in 1976.  He was then on partial medical leave until he retired in 1995. Noel will be missed by family and friends, UBC faculty, staff and students past and present.

There will be a celebration of Noel's life on Sunday, November 26 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the UBC Golf Club, 5185 University Blvd.  In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to St. John Hospice, Union Gospel or a charity of your choice [Noel's obituary from Vancouver Sun].
