Dhillon Centre Student Triumph Award: 2SLGBTQIA+

A $1,000 award will be provided by the Dhillon Centre annually for an undergraduate UBC Sauder student who identifies as 2SLGBTQIA+. The award will be given out based on community contributions and leadership, barriers faced, and potential impact of receiving the award.

Eligibility:

  • Open to current UBC Sauder undergraduate students. Applicants do not need to be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
  • Applicants must identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-binary, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, or analogous term).

Award Criteria:

  • Consideration will be given to a student’s community contributions and leadership, barriers faced, and potential impact of receiving the award (including, but not limited to, financial need).

Recording of Student Award:

  • The Award shall not be listed on a recipient’s transcript of academic record.

Award Form:

  • The Award shall be applied to tuition and other student fees owing. If the amount of the Award is greater than the fees owing, the excess is paid to the student.

Award Announcements:

  • The Award will be announced in the Spring by UBC Sauder and the Dhillon Centre through online channels unless recipients prefer to remain anonymous. In this case, recipients’ names and any personal identifying information will remain strictly confidential. It will be the responsibility of the Dhillon Centre to obtain consent from the recipients for any announcements related to their award, which will only occur after recipients have been informed of having received the award.

Application Process:

  • By applying for this award, applicants are acknowledging they self-identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-binary, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, or analogous term).
  • To be considered for the Award, applicants must submit a single PDF file containing:
    • A brief bio to tell us a little about yourself (50-100 words)
    • A summary to let us know why you are applying for this award (50-100 words)
    • A description of any contributions and/or leadership to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community or other communities (50-100 words)
    • A description of any barriers you’ve faced, which might include economic, physical, learning, social, cultural or other personal contexts such as intersectional identities and/or being a member of an underrepresented group at UBC Sauder (including but not limited to being Indigenous, or a member of a racial, ethnic, or other minorities group, students with disabilities, first-generation college/university students, and/or coming from a background not traditional to academia) (50-100 words)
    •  A description of the impact of receiving this award (how it might benefit you personally and/or through your impact in your community) (50-100 words)
  • Applicants are encouraged to also submit a CV and/or link to an applicant’s LinkedIn profile.
  • Note that applicants must submit documentation in a single PDF file named in the following format: UBC student number, Last Name, First Name, Award name.
